ULTIMA SHAPECRAFT

Nigel James

James was a regular for a year or two with his spyder bodied Ultima, boasting a 5.8 litre Chevrolet V8 engine. In the light Lee Noble-designed chassis this gave a serious power-to-weight ratio which instantly made it a front runner and regular race winner.

In August 1993 Nigel set a new  Special GT lap record of 58.42 (113.38mph).

Lee Noble also penned the Prosport cars which were a feature of the series at this time and has since gone on to manufacture roadgoing supercars under his own name.

Ultima- Chevrolet Coupe

Mechanically similar, the Coupe Ultima was driven by Bob light and became one of the most regular overall race winners in the series history during the mid 90s.

In fact the car won 8 races out of 9 in 1996 but somehow still lost the overall title to Keith Messer by a point, despite Messer winning his class only 7 times.

In 1997 there were 5 more overalls wins - and 7 class victories from 9 rounds but again Bob was 2nd in the title chase to Robinson's Class B Mallock. In 1998 he only did a few rounds and scored two 2nd places to take 3rd in the class A Points.
