Erling Jensen

Danish rallycross ace Erling Jenson became a local favourite in his large, luridly painted and wildly be-winged Rover in the late 80s.

The unlikely looking 4.5 litre V8 saloon sometimes ran at the front, when the ever changing entry permitted (ie. no Skoda-Rover or Ultimas).

Erling went on to run a tiny but title winning Maguire Imp before moving up to the famous Rover powered Skoda that had already served Fenwick and Douglas so well.

He finally ran a Lotus Esprit-bodied car when crashed on it's debut when a wheel collapsed. The subsequent backwards trip into the bank at Camp corner destroyed the car and injured it's driver badly enough that he never reappeared.

Richard Williamson

Mechanically similar but somewhat less extroverted, the black painted Williamson SD1 was almost as quick and resularly ran in the top 6 until the arrival of the Jaguars and Ultimas.
